Schools Ambassador Programme
Dungannon & Cookstown Business Education Partnership (BEP) in
conjunction with Fermanagh, Omagh & Strabane BEP, organised
a Schools Ambassadors Programme on behalf of Innovation West for
Year 11 students in each of the respective areas. This project is
funded by the EU Building Sustainable Prosperity (EU BSP) Programme
and the following District Councils:
Cookstown
District Council
Dungannon
and South Tyrone Borough Council
Fermanagh
District Council
Omagh
District Council
Strabane
District Council
The
aim of the programme was to:
Give students an
insight into Business, Engineering and IT industries in their local
area.
Encourage students
to consider the diversity of career options within under- represented
sectors such as business, engineering, science, technology and research.
Enhance the skills
base of the region
Develop the partnership
between local industry and schools to address their mutual needs.
Address the issue
of skills shortages and therefore develop sustainable links with
businesses
to enable the promotion of their industry to young people.
To develop links
between schools and enhance communication and understanding between
the two communities.
429
students participated in the programme that
took place in September and October 2003. Each student visited two
local companies and had presentations from 3 local ambassadors.
